Designing Culture Systems that Drive Inclusion

Metrolinx

Challenge

Values sat on walls but not inside workflows. Teams lacked clarity on what inclusion looked like in decisions, communication, and collaboration. Momentum was episodic and dependent on champions instead of shared understanding of inclusive communication.

Approach

Codified culture into everyday interactions, systems and workflows. Introduced shared principles, shared discovery and conversation around long used terminology, and communication playbooks. Built repeatable rituals, check points and trust so inclusion became habit, not initiative.

Execution

Built an internal leadership workshop, communications, and lightweight operating systems to track engagement, support adoption, and scale participation across teams.

Impact

Improved collaboration and engagement across teams, establishing DEI along with other leaders and teams as a shared responsibility rather than an initiative.

Build cultures people feel, not read. Make inclusion real by embedding shared language, behaviors, and rituals into everyday work.
